In a breathtaking fusion of art, unity, and national pride, Cambodia shattered a Guinness World Record by creating the world’s largest display of origami hearts — an extraordinary gesture of love and solidarity that captured the hearts of millions.
Originally aiming to fold 1 million paper hearts, the Cambodian people far surpassed expectations, assembling nearly 4 million hand-folded origami hearts. This record-breaking feat was more than a celebration of creativity; it was a profound symbol of the country’s spirit, resilience, and collective passion — especially in support of Cambodia’s national athletes at the 2023 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

The stunning display took place at Angkor Wat, the spiritual heart of Cambodia and a symbol of the nation’s enduring identity. From schoolchildren and artists to monks, athletes, and community volunteers, people from across the country came together — folding hearts and writing messages of encouragement, hope, and pride.
Each heart carried a message of support for Cambodia’s athletes, transforming a simple piece of paper into a national symbol of unity. The campaign embodied the nation’s belief that every heart, no matter how small, can contribute to something historic.
“As UK Ambassador, I should probably feel regret that we have lost our origami heart-making world crown. But Cambodia hasn’t just edged past us — it has launched into the stratosphere. Nearly 4 million! A special way to mark the Southeast Asia Games,” remarked Dominic Williams, the British Ambassador to Cambodia.
Beyond breaking records, this effort reflected Cambodia’s deep-rooted values of togetherness, creativity, and national pride. It served as a reminder that world records are not just numbers — they can also be expressions of identity, emotion, and collective achievement.
